Chinese Train Crash Kills Dozens

An early morning collision between two passenger trains in rural China has left at least 66 people dead and 400 injured, making it one of the deadliest railway accidents in recent history. At least 70 of the injured have been listed in critical condition. According to witnesses, the accident occurred after one of the two trains derailed. Many of the passengers were asleep at the time of the predawn collision, and survivors could be seen wrapped in bed sheets taken from the trains’ sleeping cars. China’s extensive rail system provides service to more than 1.3 billion passengers each year.
